Social Enterprise for Self help groups in Tamil Nadu

The crowd applauded in delight as the red ribbon was cut. The moment certainly was to cheer as it marked the opening of a social enterprise unit at Kazuperumpakkam village in Tamil Nadu.


In the sidelines of the seminar titled “Social Entrepreneurship: Social Transformation”, an entrepreneurship unit was inaugurated on 9th December 2013 by Mr. Suchitta Koley, Chairman of the Board of Directors, FXB India Suraksha for the economic upliftment of rural communities of Mathur Periya Colony in Tamil Nadu. The seminar was attended by Ms. Mamta Borgoyary,   CEO, FXB India Suraksha, Dr. PSKP Raju, Director (Medical), FXB India Suraksha, including other dignitaries from the government and Non- government organisations.

The social enterprise unit comprise of well-equipped units for coir rope making, sanitary napkin making and even poultry farming & vermi-composting that will help the beneficiaries to grow as trained entrepreneurs. The enterprise targets employing 45 women entrepreneurs involved in income generating activity.

Emphasizing on the challenges in the marketing and setting grounds for linkages and advocacy Ms. Mamta Borgoyary, CEO, FXB India Suraksha stressed on the vital role of the intermediary organizations that works directly with the beneficiaries in the field. "Capacity building of the local communities is an important factor for social support and marketing", she added.

Overwhelmed with the joy of getting employed, one of the beneficiaries poured out her heart. "We extend our heartfelt thanks to FXB India Suraksha for its love and support. It is so kind of them that they have established a Social Enterprise for us. We will work harder and come out with some beautiful handicraft products. This definitely is going to help educate my kids and support my family economically", says Manimegalia, 39, with a smile on her face.

The inauguration indeed marked as a New Year gift as it has been reported that since the red ribbon was cut and the unit became functional, it has already managed to progress and already has 15 women members actively running the show.
