Coverage of Vulnerable Categories

Down south in the state of Andhra Pradesh, FXBIS reaches out to the women, children and youth of urban slums for an integrated approach hinging on enhancement of livelihoods options, health status and access to education within a protected and safe space for all to strive towards a self-reliant life of dignity. An exclusive programme designed around PLHAs (People Living with HIV/AIDS) as a vulnerable category has been under implementation since the inception of the organization in 2007.

Projects

Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS, Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh

FXBIS Visakhapatnam branch is implementing the project for 82 HIV/AIDS affected families. As part of the project, the organization provides medical support, counselling and supplementary nutrition services to all the 82 families each month. 55 children from these families receive educational support in the form of school fees and supplies. A group of AIDS affected women run the Mutually Aided Co-operative Society (MACS) with 90 women being assisted financially to support them establish small businesses for self-dependent earnings. FXBIS has been undertaking viral load testing for the needy individuals in collaboration with infectious disease laboratory of YRG CARE at Chennai - a referral lab for WHO and NIH. Till date, this project has covered over 1000 families affected by HIV/AIDS.

Promotion of Quality Education and Health of Marginalized Communities in Urban Slums – Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

FXBIS Visakhapatnam branch is implementing this project on promoting quality education and health for the most vulnerable communities in the slums of Old Post Office area in Visakhapatnam district. Under this project, the state team is nurturing 'school health cells' in 2 identified high schools to promote proper W.A.S.H practices among students, and consequently their parents. The project also undertakes Life Skills Education classes for the school adolescents. FXBIS is running 2 Suraksha Education Centres for supplementary education, providing academic support to 66 identified slow learners. The project also identifies school dropouts and enrolls them back in schools after upgrading their level through supplementary education. Under this project, unemployed youth are linked to employability skill training programmes.
