Implemented in partnership with UN Women, the Suraksha Prevention Programme addressed gender-based violence, trafficking, and the vulnerabilities faced by women and adolescent girls in rural Jharkhand.
At its core was the empowerment of adolescent girls and women as change agents — establishing peer leadership networks and community vigilance committees to identify risks, prevent trafficking, respond to violence, and promote gender equality across target villages.
“The programme was recognised by UN Women as a best practice and presented at the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues as a successful intervention supporting the rights and protection of indigenous communities.”
